Faceless
I took the social plunge and left Facebook. I'm going to take all my money and invest it in tinfoil for future hat making. From now on my friends will have to contact me via e-mail, phone or letter. Like Google, Facebook is a company that makes money by harvests information about it's clients and showing them demographic specific ads. The funny thing is, even though I left facebook I can't completely get rid of my profile. I gave them my information and they have the right to hold onto it forever and sell it whenever they want. Scary.
Recently I found somebody on Last.fm posting my music and pretending to be me. It feels pretty strange to lose control of your stuff like that. A few of my tracks have had a life of their own for a long time now but this person has collected almost everything I've ever posted publicly.
I've been trying to shrink my digital footprint recently. Here is a list of junk that I've gotten rid of in the last few years.
1. Top 10 movies.com
2. HotOrNot Profile
3. MSN profile
4. Yahoo Groups Profile
5. MSN groups profile
6. Yahoo Mail
7. AOL instant massager (Via Trillian)
8. Myspace
9. PayPall
10. Usendit
The list goes on...
I try not to use my real name... When I was young I didn't know any better. How can I stop crappy videogame remixes from being the no.1 return when you google "Eliot Britton"? Does Google care?
