Skateboard
I like to be busy. Some people don't like the stress that comes with an unending stream of projects, goals and deadlines, but I love it. This summer is no exception. Currently finishing the TenTooMany album is taking up a lot of time. Also, my percussion commission has to be finished on August 1st (The same date as the TenTooMany CD). *wipes sweat*
Also, this summer I've been teaching myself how to skateboard. After a few brutal wipe outs in the alley behind my apartment, I started to get the hang of things. (Bleeding all over my clothes and picking gravel out of my palms brought back memories) Now, I can skateboard on streets and sidewalks. I tend to skate very late at night because I'm not very good at avoiding obstacles yet. Obstacles in my neighbourhood include: Children, Cars, Bikes, Old People, Rocks, Immigrants and Gay Prostitutes. (As Brent and I discovered the other day)
The feeling you have while skateboarding is kind of like that feeling you learn a new mode of transportation. When you're a little kid and you're learning how to ride a 2 wheeler, the constant fear of falling makes things more exciting. When you first get your licence, the constant fear of crashing makes driving more of a rush.
Skateboarding is always a risk so always a rush. If you're Tony Hawk or Eliot Britton, a pebble can send you sprawling.
Strangely, I've been told that you shouldn't wear wrist guards unless you are using ramps. Instead, you have to learn to roll as you fall. Breaking your fall with your hands is a fast track to cast town.
